DR. MAREK RESIDENCE
The homeowners dreamed of a European style estate that felt like home in Franklin, Tennessee. They knew they wanted to build a concrete home and when they discovered Fox Blocks ICFs they had the perfect building material to accomplish their aesthetic and sustainability goals. The lot they purchased outside of Nashville is located on a bland clay type soil space. Working on clay can be a tedious process, and as such the build required an above average amount of concrete piers to anchor the home to a solid foundation. This ensures that this beautiful home will last for generations.
The project features complex, expertly installed, tall radius curved walls built with Fox Blocks. There are some challenging gabled ends on the project which the contractor crafted by stacking gables in the field and forming them high in the air; a creative technical use of Fox Blocks. Dr. Marek was impressed by the expert craftsmanship demonstrated through the swiftness of the build. The European inspired architecture of this home is warm and textural, with stucco walls and a contrasting roof. The beautiful porch awning, detailed built-ins, and gorgeous tall radius curves make for a truly luxurious home.
The house was built with sustainability as a top priority. The high efficiency HVAC is tied directly into the geothermal system. The combination of Fox Blocks’ superior insulative properties paired with a geothermal setup is a dream come true for the owner and is performing beautifully in terms of energy usage and expenses. The roofing panels also help create a tight envelope for maximum efficiency. An E-Glaze window system was utilized to minimize heat gain and transfer from the sun and all LED lighting is a final sustainable component of the property.
